Cátia Moreira de Carvalho é bolseira Marie Curie na Dublin City University, School of Law and Government. Anteriormente, Cátia foi investigadora no projeto DRIVE na Universidade de Leiden, nos Países Baixos, e no projeto NEW ABC na Universidade do Porto, em Portugal. Atualmente, é também investigadora integrada no Instituto Português de Relações Internacionais da Universidade Nova de Lisboa. É membro do painel temático sobre Foreign Terrorist Fighters do EU Knowledge Hub on Prevention of Radicalisation da Comissão Europeia, além de ser membro do ERCOR – European Researcher Community on Radicalisation, do mesmo consórcio. É ainda membro da direção do IPDAL – Instituto para a Promoção da América Latina e Caraíbas – um think tank português. Desde novembro de 2024, é perita na Comissão para a Igualdade e Contra a Discriminação Racial, da Assembleia da República. Cátia é doutorada em Psicologia pela Universidade do Porto (2017-2022), com financiamento da Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, durante o qual investigou alguns dos fatores que explicam a ausência de extremismo violento no contexto do terrorismo de inspiração islâmica em Portugal. No âmbito do seu doutoramento, Cátia foi investigadora visitante no Institute of Criminology da Universidade de Cambridge (2020). Os seus interesses de investigação centram-se no extremismo violento, nos processos de radicalização, nos foreign fighters, na desinformação e nas migrações forçadas. O seu trabalho tem sido financiado pela Comissão Europeia, pela Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, pelo U.S. Department of Homeland Security e pela Public Safety Canada. É autora de vários artigos científicos e de um livro sobre terrorismo, escrito em coautoria com João Paulo Ventura, antigo coordenador de investigação criminal da Polícia Judiciária.

Cátia Moreira de Carvalho is a Marie Curie Fellow at Dublin City University, School of Law and Government. Previously, Cátia was a researcher on the DRIVE project at Leiden University, Netherlands, and on the NEW ABC project at the University of Porto, Portugal. Currently, she is also an integrated researcher at the Portuguese Institute of International Relations at the Nova University of Lisbon. She is a member of the thematic panel on Foreign Terrorist Fighters of the EU Knowledge Hub on Prevention of Radicalisation of the European Commission, as well as a member of ERCOR – European Researcher Community on Radicalisation, of the same consortium. She is also a member of the board of IPDAL – Institute for the Promotion of Latin America and the Caribbean – a Portuguese think tank. Since November 2024, she has been an expert on the Commission for Equality and Against Racial Discrimination of the Assembly of the Republic. Cátia holds a PhD in Psychology from the University of Porto (2017-2022), funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology, during which she investigated some of the factors that explain the absence of violent extremism in the context of Islamist-inspired terrorism in Portugal. As part of her doctoral studies, Cátia was a visiting researcher at the Institute of Criminology at the University of Cambridge (2020). Her research interests focus on violent extremism, radicalization processes, foreign fighters, disinformation, and forced migration. Her work has been funded by the European Commission, the Foundation for Science and Technology, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, and Public Safety Canada. She is the author of several scientific articles and a book on terrorism, co-authored with João Paulo Ventura, former coordinator of criminal investigation at the Polícia Judiciária (Portuguese Criminal Investigation Police).
